You can still read E-books without an expensive reader
E-books are often cheaper than paper versions, and you can get a sample of the book free to try before you buy. E-books are beginning to take over from paper books, each year the percentage of books sold in electronic from grows, while the price of the electronic readers is falling all the time. For just over £100 you can get a wi-fi version, and or £150 you get a 3G version which can also use the mobile phone network, at no charge to you, so that you can download books everywhere.
But even if you are not yet ready to invest in a reader, you can read e-books on other equipment you may have. Here are some options.
YOUR PC OR LAPTOP
You can get a free program for your PC or Laptop which will let you read the books. The quality of the typing is excellent, it is big and easy to read, so reading using it is very comfortable, much better than websites, for example. To get the program, go to this site for Windows PC or this one for MAC. The PC version has a built in dictionary so it is excellent for younger readers or non-native speakers who want to improve their vocabulary.
YOUR I-PHONE (or i-Pod touch)
If you have an I-phone or i-Pod touch, you can get an App from Amazon free of charge from this site. This program too will have a built-in dictionary shortly.
YOUR I-PAD
You can also get a free App for the I-Pad, from the I-tunes site. More information is available on this site.
YOUR ANDROID PHONE
If you have an Android phone, you can get a free reader here.
There is also a free reader for Blackberries, but this is only available in the US.
So, even if you don't have an e-book reader, there is no reason why you cannot enjoy books in electronic form. Good reading!
